Out of all the movies that were released this summer, “Despicable Me 4” stood out from the rest with its incorporation of action, excitement, family-friendly humor and a clever soundtrack. The movie came out July 3, and it was instantly a massive hit worldwide.

The fourth installment of the “Despicable Me” franchise doesn’t live up to the other 3 films, but it is definitely a fun watch. With the addition of new characters, and the return of familiar faces, this provides an overall interesting plot. It was cool to see Gru (Steve Carell) and his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) return with a new addition to the family, which was their baby boy, Gru Jr. This made way for new stakes with the latest villain, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell). There were also some surprise cameos from past villains that will make anyone who grew up with the “Despicable Me” movies feel like a kid again.

A positive thing about the film was the humor, meaning the jokes made will make anyone laugh, not just children. Because of the humor being portrayed right off the bat, audiences will appreciate that they can watch the film without being worried if they will find it funny or not.

There were a few moments that felt slow, which isn’t all that great for it being a kids’ movie, given the fact that children have short attention spans. If we were to change something about the film, it would be to just get rid of unnecessary plot holes that would surface, such as an unnecessary scene with one of Gru’s daughters that involved them getting pranked with a glitter bomb, only for it to never get mentioned again.

Overall, it was a really good movie and would be very fun to watch with friends and family. People of all ages will enjoy it and if you decide to go see it you will not be disappointed.
