Some people think that Christmas decorations should be put up as early as Nov. 1, but many disagree for different reasons.
For example, junior Morgan Hawkins said it’s never too early–even in October. Many people can have mixed opinions on when you can and can’t put these decorations up and down.
“I think you can put up and listen to Christmas music whenever you want,” Morgan said. “I am currently adding to my Christmas playlist.”
Many people feel the need to be happy and jolly during this time of year because it reminds them of happy times that are on the way.
“I love hanging up Christmas lights and decorations earlier in the year because it makes the countdown of Christmas even more worth the wait,” sophomore Lily Erp said.
Not everyone is interested in getting out the decorations at the beginning of November.
“My family and I celebrate Christmas after Thanksgiving and only open our gifts when they’re supposed to be opened,” Sophomore Nathan Dyck said.
Every family is different during the Christmas season. Some families open a Christmas present on Christmas Eve or go around the neighborhoods.
“During the Christmas Holiday, my family and I start with a prayer, and then we read the Christmas Carol as a family,” Morgan said. “The last thing we do is open one Christmas present and set out cookies and milk for Santa.”
Families come down from different states and celebrate earlier, some come a year in advance for the Christmas holidays.
“My uncles and aunt live in Louisiana and my Grandparents live in Washington,” Lily said. “Although they live far away from Texas, they come down every Nov. 20 and stay through Jan. 2. They were celebrating Thanksgiving, and setting up for the Christmas and New Year holidays.”
Finally, Christmas should be celebrated early for different reasons such as traditions passed down from the older generations.
“My family and I celebrate Hanukkah,” Lily said, “because it’s in our family traditions, so we choose to celebrate this early.”
