New assistant principal Dustin Bell has come to fill a spot at Azle High School in the staff. He said he is willing to do whatever it takes to be a better AP with a bigger impact on the high school.
“Coming to a new school comes with difficult challenges: Trying to work with everyone around you includes breaking up fights at school,” Bell said. “I handle conflict and challenges by working with everyone involved and coming to a consensus for an agreement.”
Everyone has a different approach to promoting a positive school culture and providing a safe learning environment.
“Building relationships with everyone, including staff, teachers, and students, is also significant to fostering a good and positive school culture,” Bell said. “Actively making the right, accurate decisions with the problems that come my way as an assistant principal.”
Promoting positive school culture in all possible ways is the goal for all administrators. Assistant principals should be fast with problem-solving skills and decision-making with anything that comes to them. For example, they need to have patience with any situation to will lead them to the right decision at the end of the day.
“You know, you have to be patient and able to make the right decision,” Bell said. “With that given issue, if I need to seek advice from anybody that I work with my other colleagues or my other assistant principals or teachers.”
Most students get nervous or quiet when having to go up to any administrators or teachers but there are golden rules for any AP.
“I’m good at being a good communicator,” Bell said. “My key rules of being a good productive AP is being insightful and knowing what is going on within the school. It builds relationships with people, having an open door, and allowing people to come in and share anything that they need to share.”
