A recap of the varsity boys’ basketball season

The varsity boys’ basketball season ended Feb. 14, and even though the team said they didn’t end exactly as they wanted, they are still proud of what they accomplished.

“The highlight of the season was coming third in our tournament,” freshman Jaylen Sanders said. “We came in third, but we played really good teams, and we all competed at a high level.”

The team’s record this year was 10-25, yet still, the team said they have a great relationship with each other.

“I’d say we know each other pretty well because we’re all young and in the same grade,” sophomore Cason Cook said. “We spend a lot of time outside of school together, so I’d say our dynamic is strong.”

Senior captain Britt Haas said that what’s most important to a team is how they work together.

“The team is close,” Haas said “I’d say it gets better as the game goes for sure, but it’s not like there’s any fights or anything, we’re all pretty close.”

Not only does the team have a good relationship with each other, but they also have a good relationship with their coaches.

“The coaches are pretty friendly,” junior Bryce Robinson said. “We’re always cracking jokes around each other for the most part. When we’re playing a game, they’re all serious, but other than that, they’re pretty fun to be around.”

The team may come from different backgrounds, and they all have different reasons for playing basketball, but they all have one thing in common: their love for the sport.

“My dad got me started playing,” Sanders said. “He didn’t really have a lot when he was growing up, so he couldn’t play basketball, and he had to work, so that motivated me to play.”
