Artists need to up their game if they want to get me to pay attention

Music is a wonderful thing. It can connect people, or it can simply be a good way to spend your free time—just listening to music. But, the newer music of today is not as good as the music before.
A prime example was on TikTok in 2020 when COVID was bad. People were stuck inside and decided to make music and showcase it on TikTok. “Savage Love” by Jason Derulo, “Roxanne” by Arizona Zervas and Swae Lee were both songs that were popular on TikTok in 2020. They sound childish in a way, and the lyrics are not good. Jason Derulo has good songs like “In My Head,” which came out in 2009, is much better than “Savage Love.” The lyrics are good as well as the music to go along with the lyrics. The lyrics of “In My Head” are more in-depth and not as repetitive as “Savage Love”. The repetitiveness of the newer one makes the song feel like it has nothing new to offer, and it gets old really fast. His early 2000s songs were better than what he is releasing now.
Some newer songs are cringey and do not hold a lot of meaning. An amazing example of a meaningful song is “Ribbon In The Sky” by Stevie Wonder (1982). The song is about a deep connection between two people who love each other, and it’s beautiful. An example of a song that is not very meaningful and sounds bad is the song “Fancy Like” by Walker Hayes. Of course, it is okay for a song not to have meaning. There are songs that have no meaning, but still sound wonderful and catchy. But “Fancy Like” is neither of those things. The lyrics to the song are tacky and lack groove.
While there are still newer songs that are beautiful, most songs that have come out in the last couple of years, especially in 2020, have been a lot less meaningful than songs that were made in the 2000s or older.
