Students want parking lot change

As each school year comes to an end, there are many things guaranteed to happen later on. One thing that is guaranteed is the arrival of more students. Every year, more students begin to fill up the hallways at Azle, and we all know what this means: less parking available and more traffic.

“I usually park in the upper lot,” junior Matthew Cain said. “And I think getting in and out of the school is an absolute nightmare.”

Cain said he believes there aren’t enough parking lot entrances.

“It’s two thousand people trying to get into two or three entrances,” Cain said. “It just gets clogged so fast.”

Senior Hannah Goodrich also gave her input on the school’s parking.

“There’s not enough of it, and there’s too many staff spots,” Goodrich said. “They should make the back parking lot for staff only and make the rest of it for students.”

Senior Peyton Hill had a similar opinion as well.

“I think the staff has too much parking,” Hill said. “They have the entire back parking lot and then a lot of spots at the front as well.”

She was then asked what about the parking needs to change in the future.

“The opportunity for students to park in the back or remove some staff spots would be a great improvement to the school,” Hill said. “I would say parking has gotten worse, but that’s also because the amount of students at AHS has gone up in the past few years.”

Goodrich explained how students try just about anything to get a good parking spot.

“Adding more spots for students will cause less problems,” Goodrich said. “People show up really early just to park, so if the school gave students more spots, then it would be much easier.”

Most students all had the same opinion, which was to have staff park in the back and give students more spots.

“The opportunity for students to park in the back or remove some staff spots would be a great improvement to the school,” Hill said.
