“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” came out Sept. 6. It is the sequel to Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,” which was released 36 years ago, March 30, 1988.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” follows the lives of Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) and her daughter Astrid Deetz (Jenna Ortega). Lydia and Astrid return to their hometown for the funeral of Lydia’s dad. Astrid is tricked by the ghost of a teenage killer and travels through a portal to the afterlife. Lydia was once haunted by Beetlejuice but now needs his help to get her daughter back to the living world.
I really enjoyed this movie. I am a huge fan of Tim Burton movies and was excited for this movie to come out. I liked the fact that we get to see Lydia’s life after her experience with Beetlejuice in the first movie. I thought the film was funny and I think it lived up to my expectations.
If there was anything that I didn’t like about the movie, it was the character Rory. Rory is Lydia’s love interest, and in my opinion, the character sucked. The whole time you could tell Rory was just using Lydia and her television show for the money. He was very annoying and I didn’t love how he kind of just dismissed Astrid during some of their interactions. I didn’t like seeing him when he came on screen, but maybe that just means the actor did a good job of playing an unbearable character.
Outside of the character Rory, I really liked this movie and was happy that we got a sequel to “Beetlejuice.” If I had to choose between the first movie or the most recent one, I think I would pick the first one just because it’s a classic. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes Tim Burton movies or anyone who likes comedies.
