A Look Into the Past of AHS
History Repeats Itself

School History is important for every school, and Azle is no different. It tells the story of how we have grown as a community. The students in the past came back to share memories they made during their time in high school to pass down to their students.

Shayna Reasoner, who teaches OnRamps, AP, and Honors Chemistry, attended AHS from 1999-2003. Reasoner said she had lots of fun playing saxophone and being a drum major during her senior year.

“I was on the math and science team and I was in band,” Reasoner said. ”It was really good, and that’s why I decided to come back”.

Learning about school history can help us respect and acknowledge the achievements at AHS as students and staff, and strive to become better in academics, sports, and fine arts.

AHS opened in 1953, and every day students and staff walk past history in the halls. The buzzy in the front entrance, the band class portraits above the band hall, the tribute to Pearl Harbor, and the trophy cases are just a few examples.

English teacher Denise Fuller, who attended AHS from 1988-1992, came back to teach in her community.

“I love that we are a one high school town because I feel like that is a center point for the community,” Fuller said. “The magic that can happen in a classroom—there are a lot of hard days, and on those days, where there is that magic, I walk away and I’m like, ‘mic drop.’”
