A new digital hall pass application, Minga, was introduced to teachers as a “soft rollout” on Sept. 16, but it is now in full effect.
Even though some students said they find it unnecessary, the administration has pointed out the benefits it could provide to our school’s productivity.
“I think Minga is a great app,” C.O.O.L. Counselor Tenille Roberts said. “I think that it’s something that can change some time management issues that we have here.”
There are many advantages to Minga that Roberts pointed out.
“It’s going to cut down disruption of instruction time for teachers because kids can do it for themselves,” Roberts said. “It’s also going to help with how much time students are out of class and just really increase the instruction time overall.”
Sophomore Knox Houghton said he only had one issue with Minga.
“I like it other than the time limit,” Houghton said. “If you go to the restroom, and you do take more than five minutes, even if you’re not skipping, you could still get in trouble for it, which I could see that as a foreseeable problem in the future.”
Despite his concerns, Houghton said he believes it could benefit students overall.
“Minga could be beneficial because kids will be in class more, you know?” Houghton said. “They’re getting more educational time that could probably help their grades a little bit.”
Even though there are students who don’t like Minga, Roberts said she believes students should treat it the exact same as any other technology platform.
“You guys are like the generation of adapting and creating new technology,” Roberts said. “So I think you guys should treat this just the same as you do anything else. You guys are technology savvy, just roll with it, learn it, and it’s going to be great.”
