AVID Expands to Elementary Campus

AVID Expands to Elementary Campus

After several meetings with district officials, AVID coordinator Sarah Milosh has begun helping equip Silver Creek Elementary with a WICOR curriculum that will roll into effect at the beginning of next semester.

WICOR is an acronym that stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading and is deeply rooted in the AVID program here at AHS.

Now, this AVID-based curriculum will not entirely mirror the high school version that assists students with applying to college, but still will involve Cornell Notes and many of the core AVID teachings. The initiative will allow for elementary students to begin learning useful study habits and lifelong skills, and it will hopefully help many eventually adapt to secondary education.

A former AVID tutor herself, Milosh said she is very passionate about the program and believed that it would help each student in their educational journey.

The curriculum will be embedded in each and every class at Silver Creek, and Milosh said she is hopeful that the program will continue to spread throughout the district and assist as many young scholars as possible.
