As athletic seasons and extracurricular activities come to an end, many groups celebrate their members with an end-of-year banquet. Attendees have the opportunity to celebrate and reminisce about memories with their teammates, coaches, family and friends after the season is over. Depending on the banquet, some may be more on the formal side, while others prioritize casual fun. There’s a lot to consider.
If the banquet is located at the high school or the administration building, casual attire is more common. For the girls, a sundress that is matched with sandals or cowboy boots would be perfect. Matching with the sundress theme, boys wearing some boots and jeans with a tucked-in polo or button-up shirt would be nice.
However, if the banquet you’re attending will be held at a wedding venue or a fancier restaurant, dressing formally is the best approach. For girls, a silk maxi or mini dress with the perfect heels to pair it with is the way to go. The boys can never go wrong with nice dress shoes and a suit.
However, if that’s a bit out of the norm, dressing up in a casual look or dressing down in a formal look is always a safe choice. To dress up a sundress, add elegant jewelry and some elegant heels. With the boy’s boots and jeans attire, pairing a dress jacket will do the job. Dressing down a formal look is just as simple. With a silk dress, wear nice sneakers/shoes. For example, some cleaned Converse, Sambas, Dunks, Air Forces, etc. would look great. To dress down a suit, ditch the tie and replace the dress shoes with sneakers or boots.
Now, if your banquet is taking place at somewhere like Film Alley, attire shouldn’t matter too much. Just your basic shorts and a t-shirt with any tennis shoes will do the trick. But be sure to still look nice and put together, as every banquet hands out awards and takes plenty of photos.
A banquet’s purpose is to look back on the season or year and recognize the people who helped improve the program. Winning an award is special because it shows true hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
Like I said, when it comes to celebrating an ending, there truly is a lot to take into account. There’s just one more thing to consider with this special occasion: what to really expect with a banquet and what to do during the event.
Wherever the banquet is taking place, you best believe there will be food provided. Unless otherwise stated, it’s safe to say you should come with an empty stomach. There will also typically be a place specifically designed for chatting with friends, family members and coaches/teachers. For the ones who like to keep their friends and followers updated, there is also typically a spot for taking pictures and videos.
A banquet is always the best option to end the season so everyone can bond together as a whole one last time before the seniors graduate and move on to adulthood and college life. An event held like this also gives team members a chance to thank their coaches and teachers, to appreciate and look back on the memories that were created throughout the season and to look forward to the next chapter, so make sure you look the part.
