Girls soccer currently had a winning district record of 6-4-2 this season, and they just became bi-district champions. This comes after head coach Hannah Smith joined the team last year, which led many people to believe that she is the reason girls’ soccer is going to playoffs for the first time in years.

“My first two years we were with a different coach and that coach really focused on being a defensive unit,” senior Eliana Tejeda said. “However, with Coach Smith, we’ve been able to really focus on offense.”

Many of the soccer players have expressed that practices have changed in a positive way since Coach Smith has started coaching them.

“Coach Smith’s practices are a lot more focused and a lot more geared towards bettering our team as a whole,” senior Melanie Harder said. “Which has been a lot more beneficial for us because we’ve been able to work as a team a lot better than we have been in the past.”

Sophomore Emma Nelson said since Coach Smith has been here, drills have changed based on how the last game went and that energy during practices have been more positive.

“Coach Smith brings so much energy into practices,” Emma said. “She makes it to where we’re not doing the same stuff all the time, and we’re learning and improving overall.”

Girls soccer won bi-district and will be playing either Thursday or Friday against Colleyville Heritage or Midlothian, depending on which team wins today.

“The 2 years that Coach Smith has been with us, we’ve had a winning record,” Melanie said. “If we keep playing as well as we have been, we’ll do good in playoffs.”
