For any high school, the mascot is the heart of it. They entertain and create a community for people to look up to. With one design it can change the whole vibe of a school. Azle has decided to change our mascot to a new buzzy look.
“I love the new Buzzy,” Junior Creyton Towner said.” I am sad to see the old one go, but it was time for a change.”
Introducing the new Buzzy startled many at the pep rally. Buzzy looked new and improved with muscles and more vibrant green color.
“At first I was shocked and didn’t expect the change,” Junior Nicolas Renteria said. “[But,] the design quickly grew on me.”
Changing our mascot shows a new time for Azle. We are growing as a community and so are our teams. As we change Buzzy, we are showing the current time we are in. The old Buzzy represented the past Azle but we are moving into a new era for our school.
“The new Buzzy symbolizes what we want from our football team and the growing season,” assistant band director Matt Assis said.
Growing up with a mascot can help children develop their imagination. Taking photos with them and watching them at games is what most kids love to do. Some students said that it was hard seeing the mascot change when it is what they grew up with.
“The older Buzzy has been my mascot since I was a little girl,” Junior Marlee Hendrix said. “Seeing it change made my heart break a little, but I know it will be better for the current kids.”
