Seniors across the U.S. are participating in a recent trend of wearing childhood backpacks. These often advertise cartoons of shows they enjoyed at a younger age, bringing them back to simpler times.

“It could be a really unique tradition that is only done with seniors,” Principal Nate Driver said. “Everyone is thinking about what kind of backpack they would get when they’re a senior that would make it more special.”

This new backpack trend was started by seniors a few years ago as a cute way to end their public school days.

“It isn’t hurting anyone, and it has a beautiful meaning,” senior Victoria Torres said. “It just celebrates our last year and celebrates our journey into adulthood.”

This light-hearted trend became popular among high school students because of its emotional significance. However, it’s not only students who are noticing these backpacks popping up.

“It’s adorable, honestly,” English teacher Sarah Milosh said. “It kind of reminds me of when my kids were little, so I think it’s kind of cute.”

These cute, cartoony backpacks seem to have captivated many of the students and even some of the teachers. Paw Patrol, SpongeBob, Bluey, My Little Pony, and many more have made appearances in these hallways.

“It’s just a fun, nostalgic thing that seniors look forward to as a kind of last childhood memory,” senior Dunessca Gutierrez said.

While there are many traditions and celebrations during senior year, this one lasts all year round. Sharing memories of shows and movies that we used to watch when we were younger, talking about change, friendship and new beginnings before we leave all this behind.

“Pretty unique idea for kids to bring their past into the end stage of public school before they step off into where they go next—it’s kind of a full-circle moment,” Principal Driver said.
