What Juniors Need to Think About Going into Their Senior Year
The end of the year is approaching quickly. The class of ‘22 will be seniors in just a few days now. Here are a few things juniors must do to stay on the right track for senior year.
One of the most important things to do in order to be prepared for senior year is taking the SAT and the ACT. The SAT and ACT are standardized tests that colleges use to make admissions. It is recommended that you take one of them once during your junior year. Then you could take it again your senior year if you were not satisfied with the results. There are many opportunities to take the SAT or ACT, even the school offers a free SAT once every school year. You can choose to take the SAT with or without the essay. Although the school does not offer a free ACT you can still take it at a low cost. If you have not taken the SAT or ACT you are already behind in preparing for your senior year.
Another thing juniors need to consider for senior year is to start applying for scholarships now. There are many scholarships that are available to not just the seniors but to the juniors as well. Scholarships are a great way to get help on paying for college tuition since college can be very expensive. The requirements for scholarships can range from financial requirements, academic requirements, extracurricular requirements, and many more. If you need help with filling our scholarships, Ms. Surratt in the B hall is a great person to go to. She will help you with filling scholarships out as well as help you find scholarships. It is never too early to look for scholarships.
Lastly, a junior should consider what college they would like to attend. By this time you should have a list of colleges you would like to attend. You should research the colleges and start eliminating the ones you are not as interested in. Your list should be narrowed down to just a few colleges by now. Although, due to COVID not many colleges are doing on campus tours people can still take virtual tours of the college through Zooms.
These are just a few things juniors should do in order to prepare for their senior year of college. If you are already behind try to catch up in the summer before senior year starts.
