Colton Delaney is here to start his teaching career at AHS and is ready to share his knowledge about the law.
“I really enjoyed college as far as criminal justice and just the subject itself and I also liked the information,” Delaney said. “I pretty much touched every aspect of the criminal justice system that anybody in my classes will be going into so it made it a pretty smart choice to come here to teach it.”
Delaney is also not new to living in a small town.
“I grew up in Kemp, about an hour or so outside of Dallas,” Delaney said. “Then I went to college in Witchita Falls up at Midwestern State University, and then, after I graduated, moved to Weatherford to work as a parole officer.”
Before going to college and becoming a parole officer, Delaney explored the United States for a bit. He described this as one of his defining moments.
“I graduated high school and the next two years I was traveling around the U.S. on my own doing that,” he said. “Very first, I went to Amarillo, so not that far. Then I was in Ohio and then Denver, Georgia, Houston. Gone for two-three months and then back for about a month of rest.”
Now that he is here at AHS he wants to make sure his students can get the most out of his class by being involved.
“I’m trying to make it fun while they are learning something,” Delaney said. “My main thing is as long as I’m having fun teaching it, they should be having a decent amount of fun learning it.”
Even though the school year has just started Delaney has already made a good impression with his students.
“He’s great, funny and very interactive,” senior Kadin Kunkleman said. “He’s very passionate about teaching.”
