All summer long, the phrases “Brat Summer” and “brat” have been floating around following the release of Charli XCX’s album, “brat.” On June 7, Charli released the dance/club-inspired album with 16 songs that immediately drew attention.
The saying, “brat summer,” to me, means having as much fun as you want to have without worrying about other people’s standards or what society thinks. This idea of just letting loose and having fun has given rise to many trends beyond just the “brat” sayings.
Further into the summer, Charli’s song, “Apple,” became a popular dance across TikTok and Instagram, helping spread the reach of her album even more. Many celebrities started to join in on the dance, including Joe Jonas and Glen Powell, and some have even admitted to being a “brat” themselves.
As the album gained even more popularity, famous singers started appearing on songs as features. Charli soon created a deluxe version of the album, called “brat and it’s completely different but also still brat.” It is the same album but every song has a different featured artist. Some of the featured artists include Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Lorde and Addison Rae.
She is now touring “brat” on the Sweat Tour, a collaborative set of shows with popstar Troye Sivan. So far, throughout the tour, the pair brought out surprise guests, such as Billie Eilish, to shock the crowd. Her tour looks like one big party and would definitely be fun to go to with friends, especially with Charli’s different and evolving sound.
