Noah Kahan released the first song, “The Great Divide,” from his new album, which is coming out April 24. The album will have 17 tracks.

Kahan’s last album, “Stick Season,” was released in 2022 and earned him two Grammy nominations, so listeners have been eager for new music. Personally, the wait for new music was worth it. When listening to his new song, it is obvious that he put a lot of heart and dedication into it.

Throughout the song, you hear the emotion in his voice as he tells the story of someone he used to know but is no longer close with. He sings about how he wishes the best for this person, and how he frequently thinks about them.

He writes, “You know I think about you all the time,” and “I hope you settle down, I hope you marry rich.” These lyrics are great examples of how he feels about the fact that he is no longer connected to the person he is singing about, although who he is singing about is unknown.

I thought this song sounded very different from his past music. At the beginning, it’s very slow-paced, and this is where he tells most of the story about the person he connected with. He establishes how they weren’t exactly friends, but they had a lot in common. He writes, “We ain’t friends, we’re just morons who broke skin in the same spot.” I think this means that they bonded over the similar experiences they had in their youth, and how they both went through a lot of pain when they were younger.

I think that his storytelling throughout the song and how well he explains how he feels about the person he used to know is what has made this song such a hit. It debuted as number one on the U.S. Spotify chart, with almost three million streams, and as number one on the global Spotify chart with almost five million streams.

He also released a music video for the song on Feb.1, as well as tour dates for 2026. I think that the momentum Kahan’s song is gaining and the announcement of tour dates is going to make Kahan’s album even bigger than the last one.
