If you haven’t read the “TikTok-famous” book, The Housemaid, stay away from your For You Page. On Dec. 19, a film version was released in theaters. Going to watch The Housemaid” in the movies blind is one of the best experiences you could have to watch this. Seeing this gave me one of the wildest rides in a movie.
Looking for a fresh start, Millie (Sydney Sweeney) finds herself as a housemaid in a wealthy home hired by Nina (Amanda Seyfried). Millie thinks she hits the jackpot with this family, but quickly realizes that Nina is erratic and has the “perfect” husband, but between the tiny room in the attic and the odd rules, it doesn’t take long for danger to break out.
Throughout watching the movie, although some plot points in the movie were predictable, this movie came with a good twist. My eyes were on the screen the whole time, and not one time did I get bored. This movie was very engaging. The overall energy of this movie was high and had a good type of fun to the tone. The aesthetics of this movie fit the plot and everything tied together perfectly. Toward the end, the dots connected more to have the perfect ending. The outcome and the villains of this film were fun to me, and since I had seen no spoilers, I found myself liking a character before their true colors were revealed. They did a good job at this, and I saw little to no signs until the ending.
The movie was 2 hours and 11 minutes long, and throughout the whole movie, the tension and problems continued to build up with little to no explanation for why these things were happening. Toward the end of the movie, flashbacks are shown of Nina’s life and why everything that is happening happened, which kind of killed the suspense for me. Instead of solving problems of the film, the last 15 minutes focused on exposition. Since this movie was pretty long, there were times it felt repetitive with the same two characters having the same conflict and dialogue.
Being able to go and watch this movie blind is one of my best movie experiences yet. This movie was a great thriller, and for anyone who likes suspense and unexpected turns, this is the one for you. This movie reflected the great aesthetics, although the crazy, unexpected ending. This is a movie to watch.
