Things to Do in New Orleans
New Orleans is one of the most haunted cities in the U.S. It is also one of the craziest cities that I have ever been to. Over winter break, my family and I took a vacation there, and it made me want to share with everyone why it’s one of the best places to visit.
The city was built on a bayou, and the Mississippi river goes through the city. I would recommend you to go down to the river walk where you can sign up to tour the twin World War II ships. We learned which of the boats was the fastest, where on the Mississippi River they traveled, and a lot of other things.
I think the best part of New Orleans is the French quarters. That is where most of the history is and where the most stuff happens. It is also where it is the most haunted. Believe me when I say that you will have fun and learn a lot. I would recommend going on some walking tours to learn some cool history.
Aside from the boat tour we went on, the other tours that we went on were a walking ghost tour, a haunted bus tour, and a city bus tour, where we got to see where some of the most important historical places are. I saw where the battle of New Orleans was and where the soldiers hid from each other. It is one of the most important parts of history for New Orleans.
One of the many places that I went to visit in New Orleans is the place where the TV show called The Originals was filmed. It is based on vampires, witches, and wolves. The places they filmed are haunted, and some of them are hotels.
I met some people who identify as vampires, and they are really cool and also surprisingly nice. There is a bar just for vampires.
I went by so many graveyards. I learned that there are 45 different ones that have over 1,000 dead bodies in them. The reason is that they let the bodies decompose for a year and a day then they pull the bodies out and put them in a bag and put it back in the tomb and put another body in it.
There are also a lot of voodoo shops there that have shot glasses, masks, and cool t-shirts. Some of the voodoo shops have Cajun seasoning and Cajun pickles, and I brought some home with me. They are good, but they have a spicy aftertaste.
Also, the food is so good and different there. It is primarily Cajun food, like gumbo and jambalaya. They also had crab for a seafood boil. If you go to New Orleans, you must go to the flea market. The flea market has great food and music, and is a perfect place to buy souvenirs. . You also can get some boudin from the flea market and crepes, and you can get po boys. There are different types of them, like a breakfast one and a seafood one.
I ate a bunch of French pastries called beignets. I 100% would recommend it. They are so good. I also heard a lot of jazz music when I was walking around. Trust me, New Orleans has so many smells and sounds, but you kind of get used to it.
I think that if you ever get the chance to go out of town, I would recommend you go to New Orleans. There is a lot to do, and you can learn a lot of history. Maybe you will get to see a ghost like I did.
