The high school has been under construction for the last five months to improve and add on to many different parts of the school.
“Cafeteria and kitchen are done, so those are up and running as we know,” Principal Nate Driver said. “We’re super happy they got everything done in the timeline that they said they would.”
Now, the upgraded kitchen and expanded cafeteria can accommodate for the growing student body.
“We can fit about 800 students now,” student nutritionist and cafeteria staff member Jaye Langston said. “Some of the new equipment we’ve got is extra steamers, extra stoves, and a big pan we can cook lots more food in. We’ve got slicers, choppers, we’ve got everything.”
Because of the updates, the cafeteria can serve more students in a more timely manner. Lunch is much more efficient now.
“The new equipment is suitable for the amount of students we have now,” Langston said.
The improved cafeteria is not the only change to the high school.
“What we used to call the SL hallwa– we’ve taken away the SL,” Driver said. “It’s now going to be a continuation of H-Hall.”
The old copy rooms in that hallway have been converted to more useful spaces as well.
“We’ve renovated offices down there,” Driver said. “Now, there’s two offices and a conference room.”
In H-Hall, the old forensic lab will be completely redone.
“They’re remodeling that whole room to be a culinary lab,” Driver said. “It just takes a little longer because of the plumbing and infrastructure. That classroom will be ready in January.”
Most of the renovations are predicted to finish by the end of this semester, and the rest are on track to finish by the very beginning of January.
