On March 8, Ariana Grande released her seventh album, “Eternal Sunshine.” Each song contributes to the messages behind “Eternal Sunshine.” The title refers to the sci-fi romance movie starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet called “Eternal Sunshine”. In the movie, the couple breaks up and decides to erase each other from their lives.
The lead single of this album is “Yes, And?” This song talks about how Ariana Grande doesn’t want to please anyone anymore. The song is very upbeat and feels empowering.
The album touches on topics of self-reflection and looks back on past relationships. This album is also diverse in the sense that each song showcases different types of pop. A great example is the song “Bye,” which is more upbeat while “I Wish I Hated You” is softer and less upbeat. Both songs still being in the pop genre.
There are also different themes that are expressed in the album. “Saturn Returns Interlude” isn’t really a song but is like a break in the album. It’s like a wake-up call to get back to sorting things out within your life. Another theme is an unreal type of love. The song “Supernatural” expresses this theme of unreal love.
From a personal standpoint, I really like this album. I would have to say my top three songs are “I Wish I Hated You,” “We Can’t be Friends” and “Bye.” I really like how “I Wish I Hated You” is not a very upbeat song, and it feels very emotional to me and I really like that about the song.
Overall, I find the album very enjoyable. There are songs that upbeat and lifting, as well as songs that are not as upbeat.
