The Netflix series, “Wednesday,” which premiered Nov. 23, is taking many hits from the newest and older generations of Addams’ family fans. 20-year-old actress Jenna Ortega plays the main character, Wednesday Addams, who attends the Nevermore Academy and will soon undertake one of her favorite hobbies, investigating a killing spree and unraveling a murder scene from 25 years ago.

The culprit behind the brilliant and phenomenal TV series is director Tim Burton, who is responsible for creating well-known goth and horror films, like “Edward Scissor Hands” and “Sleepy Hollow.” He is skilled at making well-detailed scenes, viewers find fascinating.

As mentioned in an interview, Jenna Ortega said Wednesday never blinked, similar to the Kubrick stare, emotions are a distraction for the schemes Addams pulls. Surprisingly, fans noticed she would blink when she was vulnerable, and closing her eyes carried emotional weight.

As a horror film fan, I genuinely enjoyed watching the series, her dark INTJ personality forces viewers to wonder what could happen next. Her awkwardly mischievous smile in the very first episode after releasing piranhas into a pool chilled me to the bone, and it was compelling seeing her character development with wholesome interactions with her werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair, played by Emma Myers.

Every scene was captivating with a slight teenage cringe. Wednesday’s flailing around the dance floor with her date Tyler Galpin is funny and cute, knowing Ortega recreated some of Addam’s original dances. I love how Addams slowly developed a nice personality for her close friends and, Thing, a long-time Addams’ family member throughout the series.

The series is well put together, but there are a few flaws I’d like to talk about. I hate love triangles. Although there is suspense over who Wednesday will pick as a lover, love triangles are typically overused in any teenage series.

“Wednesday” is for anyone. I genuinely enjoyed Jenna Ortega as the main character. I’m enthusiastic to see her reputation as a Latina actor grow to a brilliant woman.
