“Act well your part; there all the honor lies.” This is the motto for the International Thespian Society. This is the biggest and best organization you can be a part of in High School Theatre. It was founded in 1929 and is for the purpose of all performing arts. They have about 2.3 million members inducted into this organization: that shows just how big The Theatre World is.

Azle High School helps students out by having a whole school week dedicated to becoming a member of ITS. They do it once every school year. Previous students who are already a part of ITS become Inductors. The Inductee students put on an act of the Inductors choice each day of the week leading up to induction day.

“The whole world is a stage, play your part well,” Theatre Teacher Mrs. Moen said. “There were many creative ideas the Inductors had the Inductees perform.”

“Being my first year was pretty cool, some of the things that my Inductor [Emily Ball] got me to dress up in or act like was pretty crazy considering it was also STAAR Test week,” Freshman Emilee Barbour said.

“Not everyone is picked to participate in this program for multiple reasons due to Theatre tasks,” Sophomore Macie Crawford said. “ITS Week is for people being inducted which means someone thinks they do an amazing job on stage or behind the scenes and wants to make them a thespian. The reason I wasn’t a part of it is because I wasn’t inducted.”

Mrs. Moen sent out an email to all of the other teachers about ITS Week and most of the teachers were perfectly happy to see theatre kids have fun becoming different characters.

“I think it’s a lot fun for all the kids to dress up and be goofy and do goofy things,” English teacher Mr.Corbett said.

I talked to someone who has been an Inductee and an Inductor as well.

“Well, it was really fun being an Inductee because I didn’t know what to expect the next day. It was really fun being different things and getting weird looks from people who didn’t know what was going on,” Tiffany Cannon said. “As an Inductor, it was fun because I was the one in control of the actions and appearances of the individual I was inducting. All in all, it was fun.”

Junior Grace Rollman was not a part of ITS Week and she had some thoughts on it as well.

“I am not the kind of person who could do this, but I had a lot of fun seeing all the creative people and laughing at some of them too,” Rollman said.
