Varsity Football Headed to the Second Round of Playoffs for the Third Year in a Row

For the third year in a row the football team has made it past the bi-district game or the first game of playoffs. The next game will be on Saturday against the Lubbock Coronado Mustangs.

“We have been bi-district champions back to back to back years now, ” varsity running back coach Jason Vines said. “We are really excited to conquer that lion as Coach Dorris says.”

In Saturday’s game against Burleson Centennials, the Azle Hornets won 42-35.

“We expected a hard well-fought game and that’s what we got, we came out the more physical team.” running back Jacob Lee said.

The game started at noon with 7:17 left on the clock for the first quarter Chris Lee ran in a touchdown. Which gave the Hornets the lead and by the end of the first quarter the Azle Hornets were up by 14-0.

“I felt really excited,” quarterback Chris Lee said. “It was a great win we had; we all fought for it and received it.”

The game went back and forth as Burleson tried to score a touchdown. After Burleson scored once, Azle’s defense was able to successfully continue to hold them back until the end of the second quarter and start of half time Azle was 21-7.

“They did make a comeback of some sorts that did scare me but yeah I know we were gonna win,” right guard for the offensive line Braden Crews said.

By the end of the fourth quarter, Azle had a close win with it being 42-35. Which allows Azle to go to the next game in the playoffs. Bringing the Hornet’s one step closer to being state champions.

“Knowing the team and doing their job like we were supposed to,” wide receiver Eric McAlister said. “So winning was something I knew was coming.”
