New Theatre Teacher’s Plans for the Year
New Theatre direction is changing from former teacher and administrator Fursey Gotuaco to new theatre teacher Bailey Brewer. Ms. Brewer already has every show planned for the year: “Check Please,” “Can’t Take It With You,” and “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown.”
Ms. Brewer’s plan is to give kids as much experience as they had lost last year due to quarantines, virtual schooling, and social distancing.
“A lot of things I’m keeping the same,” Ms. Brewer said. “I worked with Mr. G on the plans for this year, and so a lot of it will be the same but some will have my spin on it.”
“Check Please” will be a virtual format which will be released on CDs for sale. Filming began on Sept. 11, and was completed on the same day.
“‘Check Please’ just seemed like a cute little show about awkward dates, that’s all it is, awkward dates,” Ms. Brewer said.
“You Can’t Take It With You” will be performed from November 12 to 14.
“I was actually in ‘You Can’t Take It With You’ in college, and it was a very fun show,” Ms. Brewer said. “I think it will bring a different challenge for the kids this year.”
The Musical, “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown,” will be performed through January 21 to the 23.
“I worked on ‘You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown’ when I was in college,” Ms.Brewer said. “It’s a really fun show and it’s small and won’t be a lot of stress. It will be super fun from every aspect of it.”
