In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I would like to recognize one of our amazing educators: Mr. Gregory Davis Head Band Director.
Coming into high school, band was a big change for me from junior high. Starting summer band was nerve-racking and I was scared about marching band and learning with people older and better than me. Since the first day, he was very welcoming which helped ease my anxious feelings. I was nervous about playing, but Mr. Davis always says, “It’s better to play confidently and mess up than not play and never learn.” This pushed me out of my comfort zone to play more and made me better than before.
Mr. Davis takes the time to connect with his students and is the best role model for them to look up to. He is always finding ways to make learning music interesting. Class periods are filled with life and education. He is always encouraging his students and helping them strive for excellence. As the new head band director, he has stepped up to take on many responsibilities for our fine arts department. He never fails to make his students laugh with his jokes while inspiring students, daily, to enjoy playing their instruments.
He has made me love my instrument, and I look forward to coming to class every day. He has created an amazing environment for students to feel welcomed in and has made the band a family. He is truly a spectacular teacher and soon to be a proud father.
Thank you for everything you do!
