We’d like to recognize one of Azle’s most exceptional educators: choir director Brent McCartney.
McCartney has been the choral director at Azle High School for 29 years and is more involved in the school than just through teaching. From acting as an accompanist for Azle High School concerts to conducting award-winning choral groups, McCartney has gone above and beyond in leading his students to success and giving them a judgment-free space to make mistakes and learn new ways to improve along a path of accomplishment.
Establishing bonds with each one of his students, McCartney makes the choir room a stress-free and fun space, providing his students with the opportunity to express themselves through every note and measure they sign and sing.
“Mac is very dedicated to what he does,” senior chorale member Caitlin Sanders said. “He works hard and always makes sure to check up on the mental health of his students.”
Another senior chorale member, Paul Leonard, said that Mr. McCartney constantly works to make his learning environment flexible.
“I’ve known McCartney for years now and he’s great,” Leonard said. “It’s really nice to see how he is always adapting to different students’ learning styles.”
Not only a wonderful educator but an outstanding person, McCartney is always compassionate and understanding. He goes above and beyond to make his students feel relaxed and comfortable.
