All the way at the bottom of the school is Azle’s newest forensic sciences teacher, Katherine Cruz. You can find her in D4, where she also advises the Criminal Justice Club.
Cruz grew up in San Diego and graduated from San Diego State. She said that graduating from college was a defining moment in her life since that was the moment she decided she wanted to teach what she loved.
After college, she worked with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department for 28 years before retiring. She had been retired for 4 years before being talked into applying for her position by former forensics teacher, Samantha Brown.
Cruz said her first few weeks have been fun for her teaching. She has loved the students’ bright personalities and creativity.
“It has been eye-opening being retired for a while, but I am enjoying it with my students,” Cruz said. “I cant wait to see what this year entails.”
