Looking as far back as possible, there has never been a tennis player from Azle to make it past the district and move on to regionals.

That is, until senior Collin Clark.

Clark placed 1st at district on April 13-14 and competed at regionals on April 26-27 at Texas Tech Tennis center.

“I am incredibly proud of the work that Collin has put in to improve and excel this year and look forward to watching him compete,” Assistant tennis coach Navauda Miller said.

Collin placed first in district overall allowing him to move on and becoming the first azle tennis member to go to regionals.

“I felt well prepared by my coaches for regionals and I’m excited to see what the program has in store for the future,” Collin Clark said.

Collin is the captain for boys and co-captain overall with fellow senior Lauren Overton for this year’s tennis team.

“He is really nice as well as respectable and is a great role model overall,” junior tennis player Jillian Light said.

Clark won the first regional match however, he lost the second and placed 6th. Meaning he will be moving forward in going to state.

“I’m glad that I set a high standard for the future athletes in Azle tennis,” Collin Clark said.

Although Collin might not be going to state, that doesn’t put a damper on the fact that he is the first ever tennis player to move past district and go to regionals.

“Our district has some very competitive tennis teams, so it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to even place in the district,” coach Miller said.
