Teacher appreciation week is fast approaching and this means it’s time to recognize some of the great teachers we have here at Azle. Mr. Corbett teaches honors English 2, journalism, printing and imaging technology, and creative writing classes. He has been one of the best teachers I have had. He puts so much effort into making sure that everything is on track even if he loses sleep because of it. He takes the time to make sure newspaper stories are edited and that we are on schedule for our deadlines.

As well as teaching many classes, Mr. Corbett is the sponsor for UIL journalism and Chapters of Azle creative writing club. I have been on the UIL team since my freshman year and I enjoyed it in a way I never would have known if he hadn’t convinced me to join. He sees students in a light that they don’t see themselves, as I never would have imagined being on the newspaper let alone being one of the editors.

To me, his classroom has always been a safe space, whether it be at the start of a new school year or when life gets stressful. It is one class I always look forward to and one I never want to miss. He has created a family unit out of the Printing and Imaging class and I have created some of the best friendships as well as memories I will hold on to after high school.

So, I would like to thank Mr. Corbett for all the wonderful memories and experiences I have had because of his classes and UIL. I can say with 100% confidence I wouldn’t be majoring in journalism if I had never had Mr. Corbett as a teacher. I also never would have found a passion for writing if wasn’t for him fostering it as I struggled.
