The Azle Hornet football season has once again come to a start and after last week’s game, the players have a good idea about how they’ll do this year. Since the school district has moved up to a 6A ranking they will be playing different teams, but they are still categorized as a 5A team.

“With the new district, we no longer play teams that are crazy good, which is great, but we gained some new competition we haven’t played before. I see us doing well if everyone stays healthy,” senior Daniel Ruelas said. “Arlington Heights and Brewer High School are teams to watch out for,” senior Cooper Morman said.

To be the best football team possible they have set goals to make sure they achieve that, such as playoffs and district championships first and foremost. “Then also to fall in love with the process of becoming great like doing whatever it takes week by week to beat our opponents,” Ruelas said.

On Thursday, Aug. 23, the football team played a scrimmage against Lake Dallas High School and as their first time playing against another team. They feel the season will go well considering Lake Dallas High School was a high performing team and they were a bigger school. Overall they predict the season will be great and they see themselves going to the playoffs as long as they push hard and do their 1-11.
