The movie starts out interesting with the idea of the main character Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie) breaking up with Gotham’s most notorious villain, the Joker. There is no explanation of the breakup story just montages of Harley getting drunk and staying in eating ice cream. She does villainous things when she thinks she can get away with it as no one knows that they broke up yet. She then announces it and changes status by blowing up the most important spot to the relationship.

Most of the movie there are some funny moments when Harley takes back some of her backstory as a psychologist as she analyzes the other characters, but it’s a short-lived breath before something random ensues. Ewan Macgregor’s character, Black Mask, seems like he was written to be homosexual with his partner Victor Zazz being the only person able to calm him down but they left it all to subtext and therefore did not include him as an LGBT character to normalize it in the movie industry.

Though I did enjoy the movie-going experience, the movie itself simply was not written as well as it could have been. Nor live up to the hype brought upon by the previous movie, Suicide Squad.
