Azle Bass Team Angles for a Win
The Azle Bass Team will compete at regionals this Saturday in Lake Lewisville. The team is hoping to beat out up to 110 other teams. The team beat out 33 other schools and placed first with a total of 493 points.
“We fish in a league called Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA),” junior social media coordinator Brady Gilbert said. “We fish tournaments all around the state. THSBA has 9 divisions with 30+ schools in everyone. We compete in the west division.”
The bass teams from different schools fish in tournaments to make it to regionals where they will compete to hopefully make it to the next round of fishing.
“My goal as a team is to win the tournament and everyone to just weigh in a fish; consistency is key with these tournaments,” sophomore angler Creed Dildy said. “As far as individually, I’m going for gold and am pretty confident that this is the tournament that we will take it all.”
Dildy is aiming high for this tournament, and overall they are sure that they will win this round and continue on to the next one.
“Our goal is to have all our qualifiers place in the tournament and have Azle as a school wins the tournament,” Gilbert said.
By accumulating points as a team at weigh-ins, they can make it to gold and continue to the next round.
“Students can support the team by coming to weigh-ins, watching the live weigh-ins on Facebook under the THSBA page, and also checking out our great sponsors,” Dildy said.
Supporting our teams is important to keep them running and to make sure they know AHS has their back.
“Our main concern is not winning the whole tournament as a school. We won the west division this year and beat 30 other schools such as Weatherford and Aledo,” Gilbert said.
