Credit Recovery 2021 for AZLE ISD Students

This year, AHS will be holding a Summer School Credit Recovery program from June 1- July 22. The main purpose of the program is to provide students in grades 9-12 to recover any credits needed for graduation, students may recover at home or on campus using the APEX online curriculum.

“I’ll be available four hours out of the day and Coach Tanner Street who is one of the teachers working for Summer School will be available the other four hours of the day here at school,” English teacher Keri Dorris said. “But, there are still some kinks we have to work out to see exactly how many students will be in the program.”

Mrs. Dorris and Coach Street will be available at school Monday-Thursday from 9 am-5 pm, with no bus transportation, but the school will be serving summer meals.

“Every student deserves to get a second chance to receive their credit for this year. We’re in the middle of a pandemic, and students are getting quarantined constantly,” Mrs. Dorris said. “So I feel like this is an opportunity for students to stay on track and ultimately graduate.”

Due to COVID-19 affecting student to graduate and lack of, students being quarantined multiple times and stressed to stay on track

“In Summer School this year, students will work at their own pace to hit checkpoints, if they work quickly they’ll get the credit done in about 2-3 weeks.” Mrs. Dorris said. “It’ll be offered here at school for those who need guidance using the APEX online curriculum or at home.”

Information will was sent out to parentlink on Monday, May 17 through an email and included a Google document link for the student to fill out the information if they’re interested in attending Summer School online or in-person.

“It’s been at least 10 years since the school properly had Summer School,” counselor Heather Huffaker said. “It’s been a minute for sure.”

This school year has been difficult for many students and Mrs. Huffaker hopes this opportunity will be helpful for struggling students. After 10 years, AHS decided to have a credit recovery program for students during the summer due to lack of online learning, with assignments being online this year for Summer School.

“The reason why we decided to do a Summer School Credit program is that there is a gap in learning due to COVID-related issues from the past 2 years, so we want to make sure students are recovering their credits they may have lost due to online learning.” Mrs. Huffaker said.

As school is heading to an end, students will have an option to participate in Summer School through online learning at home or at school. For more information about enrolling for Summer School and the link to sign up, click the following websites:
