Marvel Reveals New Lineup for the Year
Closing off the year with Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye, many fans of the multiversal drama waited in anticipation for what may be coming next year, and the good news is, they didn’t have to wait very long.
Following an update to Marvel Japan’s website, multiple new shows, movies, and projects were revealed to be slated for the 2022 release date. This info included release dates from multiple properties, listed in order of chronological release: Moon Knight, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, She Hulk, I Am Groot, What If? Season 2, Thor: Love and Thunder, Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
At first, this may seem overwhelming to fans as this is more content than Marvel has ever released in only one year. Not to fret, multiple of these will be six episode series releasing on Disney Plus, similar to WandaVision and Loki.
The first of these series releasing this year is Moon Knight, a hero that many may not have heard of. The story follows Marc Spector, a seemingly ordinary man with a personality disorder, who gains otherworldly powers after an encounter with the Egyptian god, Khonshu. This story is unlike any other in the Marvel lineup, focusing on themes of psychological horror and mystery, and the trailer released on the 18th has spiked a lot of interest in the fanbase.
However, the first movie releasing this year, that being Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness has arguably created even more hype within the Marvel fanbase. Being the second film in Doctor Strange’s series, many are excited to see the return of this fan-favorite character. This movie will also feature a brand new hero American Chavez, a superhero with the ability to travel across the multiverse. Little about the specific plot of the movie is known but if the teasers and trailers are any indication, this movie will serve as a huge shift in the paradigm of what a Marvel movie is, previewing a darker, grittier type of movie.
It will surely be an exciting year for Marvel, and with all of the new content coming, Marvel fans won’t have to wait very long for the next addition to this universe.
