3 Stanley cups in different colors and sizes.

Stanley cups have been out since 1913. So why are these cups getting so popular now? It’s just a simple 30-40-ounce cup with a handle and a straw in cute colors. For as long as they’ve been around, their prices, colors, selection and business have gone upward. Are they really the best cup out there, or are they just that overhyped?

Around the start of school last year, Stanley cups started popping up in students’ hands. So far, their best-selling cup is the OG 40 oz tumbler. This comes with the handle and the straw on top, starting off around $45. On their website, they have categories according to their core colors, seasonal, limited, and even customized colors. The pros of this tumbler include that they come with a reusable straw, they are dishwater safe, have a comfort-grip handle, keep your drink cold and make sure your ice doesn’t melt.

On Nov. 15, a TikTok user, @danimarielettering, showed the aftermath of her car after a horrible accident, but the Stanley cup looked like it wasn’t even touched and it still had ice in it. A couple of days later, the president of Stanley, Terence Reilly, replied to her video offering her some new tumblers. He also paid to replace her car. This received everyone’s attention, persuading more people to buy their very own Stanley tumblers.

When schools came back from Christmas break, everyone and their moms brought their own tumblers. Profit in Stanley cups went $676 million from the time that the TikTok was posted to January. Even if this tumbler has been around for a couple of decades, Stanley’s are just now skyrocketing.

Recently, people have discovered that there is some lead in these popular tumblers. Terence Reilly came out with a statement that said, “There is really no risk of you coming into contact with lead unless the bottom of your Stanley is broken.” Parents have been very skeptical of their kids continuing to have their tumbler, which has made the sales go down a little bit. However, they have been releasing new colors in different sizes to make them still relevant.

I feel like this is the hydro-flasks situation all over again. They were around for years but got so popular in 2019 and then a year later they fell off. However, are the Stanleys going to stick or is it going to just fall over like the hydro-flasks? Are they really the best cup out there or are they just overhyped? Let’s just say that Stanleys have taken over the world.
